The design that guides
energy consultancy

How we created and evolved Enel Lumiè: from a simulator for users to a conversion tool for in-store consultants.

Enel Lumiè, the simulator for tailor-made energy consultancy

Enel, one of the main energy companies globally, is committed to Leading the energy transition offering innovative and sustainable solutions. In this context, it was born Enel Lumiè, the simulation tool available online and in stores, designed to make energy consumption plus Clear and aware.

Through a simple interface, the user can enter data related to your home, to consumption habits
and to the devices used. The simulator processes this information to provide a detailed analysis of current costs and, above all, a precise estimate of the savings obtainable.

With this service, Enel responds toexigency Growing number of families of understand your expenses and quantify the benefits of improvement interventions, such as solar panels or high-efficiency appliances. The goal is to allow them to Evaluate the return on investment times and receive a personalized advice to improve the efficiency of your home.

The challenge

Our collaboration with Enel for the Lumiè project was a multi-year evolutionary path, started with an initial concept called “Electrification Tool”. The challenge was not simply to create a simulator, but Guide its transformation In one strategic tool, capable of responding to complex and constantly evolving needs.

The main objective was divided into several levels. First, we needed to solve a The challenge of coherence and integration, aligning the tool to Design System by Enel. Subsequently, the challenge is
is focused on twofold effectiveness of the tool: it had to be intuitive and useful for the end user, but also a fundamental ally for Enel consultants, designed to optimize conversion and support upselling during consultations in-store.

To overcome this challenge, we had to validate every aspect of the project through an intense activity of searching in the field: fromaccessibility analysis to guarantee the regulatory compliance, come on youusability test with users and consultants, up to benchmarking of competitors And to Mystery Shopping to fully understand the sales dynamics. So the real challenge was pick these Insight and transform them into a meaningful design which led to the birth of Lumi is: no longer a simple calculator, but one complete tool, fully integrated into Enel's business processes.

Our approach to the project: evolutionary design, continuous research and integrated partnership

Our approach to the Lumiè project was based on a evolutionary and iterative process, designed to accompany the transformation Of a simple simulator In one sstrategic and multichannel tool. It was not a single intervention, but a growth path 'step by step', in which every design phase has been powered and validated by a continuous cycle of research.

The entire process was characterized by a close and constant collaboration Among our designers and searchers, the Enel's stakeholders And the tDevelopment team. Through the pickup Continue by requirements, the integration of new products and validation through usability test and affordability, we guaranteed that the tool not only responded to business objectives, but yes Adapted progressively at real needs Be of users What are the endings consultants in stores.

Main activities carried out in the project:

  1. Requirements analysis of business and interviews with stakeholders
  2. UX/UI design and alignment with the Enel Design Systems
  3. Compliance checks and accessibility analysis (WCAG standard)
  4. Usability test remotely with end users
  5. Field usability testing with In-Store Consultants
  6. Analysis of Benchmarking on competitors' tools
  7. Activity of Mystery Shopping at Enel and competitors' stores

Our method

Our Approach
We have set up the project following a evolutionary approach, based on a continuous cycle of research, design and validation. The initial phase started fromanalysis of requirements of business to give life to the first concept, but the real engine of the project was the pickup Constant of Insight from the real world. Through an intense research activity, from usability test with end users and in-store consultants, at accessibility analysis, up to Benchmarking of the competitors and the Mystery Shopping, we have identified the pain points and strategic opportunities that have guided every phase of the simulator's evolution.

The team work
The translation of insights into concrete solutions was based on a synergy constant between the our team, the Enel's stakeholders And the development team. Every evolution of the design, from the restyling of the interface to the creation of vertical simulators, has been the result of a iterative and collaborative process. Through a continuous comparison and joint work tables, we have guaranteed that every solution was not only efficacious for the user, but also technically sustainable
And perfectly aligned with the objectives of business, maintaining a shared vision along the way.

What makes the project unique

  • 3 digital touchpoints (web, tablet and mobile) analyzed and redesigned to ensure a consistent and integrated user experience.
  • +100 features and pages subjected to a full accessibility audit, which has produced a detailed report with more than 100 technical recommendations.
  • 89 UX/UI issues identified via 4 rounds of testing, who have led 13 targeted redesign interventions on screens and individual components.
  • 20 users finals involved in two cycles of usability tests, generating 45 indications of intervention to improve the overall experience.
  • 12 Enel consultants interviewed directly in 3 store, whose contribution has produced 36 strategic recommendations to optimize the tool as a sales tool.
  • 19 energy simulators, 13 competitors and comparables analyzed, an analysis that culminated in the creation of 2 positioning maps to define the market strategy.
  • 15 monitored stores into 5 cities Italian through an in-depth mystery shopping activity, which compared 8 Enel and Partner stores with the main competitors in the field.
